Day 33

The challenge for this weekend was what reminds you of the weekend. Well what reminds me of the weekend is no school. THis means that I dont really have as much homework so I am able to go out side and capture this sunset. Its a little bit of a stretch but that doesnt mean that it isn't true. The reason I didn't post a challenge picture yesterday was because the 24 hour bike race was going on and I got back at 11:30. I will try and submit this photo to the website and see how I do. They dont rank them, they only pull out the winner so everybody be cheering for me!

Day 32

After chilling at my dads shop all day I went to The Kerr Scott Reservoir to cheer on some friends in a 24 hour bike race. Yes. There are people crazy enough to do laps for 24 hours strait. Mountain biking too! So I got there when the count down timer was at 17 hours and 32 minutes left. Then it was light out and about 6 o'clock. When I pressed the shutter button for this picture it was probably about 10 o'clock and the light had set several hours ago. All the riders were wearing headlamps and some people, like the person in this picture, had more than one light to ride in the dark. Yes I did say I was friends with the people that are participating in this event. Wonder what that says about me!

Day 31

This picture looks really good in black and white. I think the lack of color adds simplicity. Its a nice touch to a fairly simple picture. I also like the interesting angle for shooting a deck of cards. I am thinking of setting up a macro still life booth in my room that I could change back grounds and lighting. If you have any ideas hit me up with a comment below.

Day 30

I took this picture in a field behind my house. To take this picture I had to scale a barb wire fence. Trek through several feet of the highest grass you have ever seen and endured about 20 minutes of a relentless onslaught of mosquitoes. All for you guys. Was the picture worth it? Comment below and tell me.

Day 29

I am approaching a month in this project. Today is day 28! I only have 337 pictures left! The bad part is that I take about 150 pictures a day to get one that I like. That means there are really 50550 pictures left to take. That is mind boggling. I have already taken about 4200 pictures. That already is a big number. Just thinking about tomorrows picture excites me so I try not to think much farther ahead than a week for fear of having a heart attack from excitement.

Day 28

I continue to like the indoor shots more and more. Its a good thing. With the end of the year testing coming up it is getting harder and harder to go some where to take a picture.

Day 27

I really like the warmth that this photo has. The yellows make it fell cozy even though this is my bedroom it feels a lot different in this picture. Thats what I like about it. Photography that is. I can take a picture in the middle of the night to make it look like day and a picture in a scrap yard and make it look like the Louve.

Day 26

This weekend was a self assigned night photography challenge. The results are really kool in my opinion and I plan on doing this type of thing again. This picture was take with: 6 second shutter speed, F4.0 and ISO 4.0. I waited in my driveway until I heard a car coming then I put on a 2 second delay to reduce camera shake and timed it so the cars brake lights made long trails above the road. A great picture.

Day 25

This is the second installment of the night photography and this is what they call day for night. You replace the night in a picture with what looks similar to day. Normally this is a film concept and done in reverse. they will make everything darker in order to get the actors properly lit and to have more control. I used this idea and an article from DPS to achieve the complete and freaking awesome opposite. This picture was taken at 9:33pm. When I looked through the view finder it was completely black. To get light enough light to hit the camera's sensor I used a 30 sec. shutter speed with a two second self timer to avoid camera shake on the tripod. I then lower the aperture all the way and put the ISO to 400. I will definitely try this again sometime!

Day 24

This is what photographers call light painting. They will set the shutter speed really long (this photo was 30 seconds) and then use a light source to "draw" with. Thus the brilliant color of the painting above. To create this I used a full orange Nalgene (water bottle) and shone a mag light up through it. The color of the bottle is what made the orange color. This weekend I am going to create my own challenge of doing night photography. There is a couple things I would like to try such as day for night and maybe more light painting. The weekend challenge from The Digital Photography school is to use a camera phone but the camera on my phone does not do good in any lighting so I opted to create my own challenge. Comment on the upcoming photos and tell me if you like them!

Day 23

Today is a Thursday. It feels like a Tuesday. Despite my confusion on the day I wanted a change of scene for my picture. I went down to the lake to take pictures of my brother. It was a nice change of scene because I was running out of places to take a picture in my backyard. I think that the results were worth it. My first leading lines picture is pretty kool. I like it!

Day 22

This is my first momchrome picture and I love the lighting. Not having to mess around with colors is nice. The lighting is spot on and now I have a unique photo of my guitar. Horay!

Day 21

I love color. The last several days have amazing color and this makes me happy. To bring out the color in a photograph is a wonderful feeling. The color is always there in the photographs but the sliders in photoshop really bring it to life. When I take some pictures I will check it on the 3" LCD screen on my camera and pick out a favorite before they even hit my computer. Then when I upload it I choose a completly different one because the one that I initially liked was out of focus or too dark. Then I pull the picture over into the wonderful wizard called photoshop and make it pop.

Day 20

I don't care that my dad doesn't like this picture I do. The shadows are awesome and the color is striking. So take that. I kid but really, I do like this picture a lot. This would be one of those pictures that I mentioned yesterday that is kinda off the beaten path. So enjoy.

Day 19

Every time I take a set of pictures I will always have one that I start to lean towards. I then will take my computer downstairs and show my parents. I end up posting a completely different one because of it. I don't really regret showing them my pictures because I seem to have a weird sense of design. I like things that have qualities that are way off the beaten path. I really do like this picture even if it wasn't my favorite out of today's bunch.

Day 18

I originally got the ides for this project from The Digital Photography School and have been checking their website often because of the great articles they write about photography. For awhile now they have been posting weekend challenges. These challenges consist of a subject matter for shooting. Last weekend it was mother's day and this one was shadows. Starting next week I will be participating in these challenges and submitting my photos so they can be considered for publishing on their website. I am looking forward to doing this because I think I might have a shot at the prize.

Day 17

After sleeping for several hours after school today I decided to welcome the challenge that is indoor photography. To begin I changed lenses to a normal lens instead of my massive zoom lens. Then I began to hunt down my next picture. As I have been discovering it is never the first picture that ends up being the photo of the day. It is always within the last 10% of the pictures. I will have a picture I want to capture in mind, take that picture and decide that it sucks. So that is when I walk around aimlessly until I see a neat little object that would make for a great picture. This project has made me think more like a photographer and every time I see something interesting I will always imagine myself getting on the ground to achieve that stunning angle, then proceed to kick myself for not having my camera. I am really enjoying the project so far and have been loving the results.

Day 16

I am thinking about having a re-do week later on in my project for pictures that are neat but could be done better. This is a really kool picture but I want to get better with my control over lighting. I had to bump up the ISO in order to get this shot and the result was slightly more grainy than I would like. Really kool concept though. Any Ideas for a Themed week would be appreciated. Just post them in the comments below. A theme could be anything from blue pictures to only high angles. I am looking for some creativity here and I might even start next week!

Day 15

I tried my hand at photographing the local bird family but my backyard is covered in trees and that makes for getting the perfect super crisp shot almost impossible. This was a fine alternative for the time being while I wait for my stadium lights to be installed in the backyard. I've often thought about having lights everywhere. Not just in my backyard or inside a studio but on the streets, sidewalks, in my school and even in the neighborhood pool. I'm pretty sure thinking about that makes me a photography nerd but whatever, everyone is passionate about something.

day 14

After taking my AP exam for psychology today I went out side to find the latest and greatest photo for the blog. This picture is of an old rusty car that my brother had abandoned in the backyard. I saw the opportunity for a great shot and the results are decent but it was overcast which gave the photo an overall blue/green appearance.

Day 13

Even though this picture is from this weekend I felt that I need to post a picture. This was the other one that I considered for one of my last few days and it is a great picture that I took while backpacking. I was caught up in a GIANT debate with the school board tonight and the outcome was not what I wanted so that is why this picture was not taken today. I still feel the need to provide you with a picture to enjoy and I regret not taking it tonight but there will be a fresh new picture tomorrow for your viewing pleasure.

Day 12

This was taken on Saturday from the campsite. It is looking over a 400ft or so cliff, over at the other side of the Gorge where we had woken up this morning. The sun was setting so there are probably several other pictures that look just like this because everybody on our trek was right beside me taking pictures. The beauty of this scene made the trip worth the all of the blisters and sore feet that we endured to get there.

Day 11

On Friday I left at 5 o'clock to go hike at Linville Gorge. They call it the "Grand canyon of the east" and it sure looked like it. I hiked for about 2 miles on Friday night all downhill then woke up on Saturday to hike about 12 miles mostly uphill, all with a 35 pound pack on my back. This picture was taken on the Pinchin trail on Friday looking down the Gorge. Those miles took their toll but it was worth it for these views.

Day 10

I hate to say this but I will not be posting day 11's photo on day 11. I am going on a backpacking trip and the forest doesnt have wi-fi. (go figure) I will be taking pictures though. I will post them on Sunday when I get home but I will not post Saturdays picture on Saturday. I hate that I have to do this but hopefully the pictures will be worth it. Back to this picture though. I took this after my mom and brother got home from a walk around the neighborhood. I love the way the light plays off my Mom's face and accents that part of the picture.

Day 9

Before my friend came over to finish up our spanish project I was working on my daily picture. I got the idea for this picture from a different friend in art class while she was messing around with some paint in water. I achieved the same effect with food coloring. I then took the photo and de-satureated it so that the food coloring was green and everything else monchrome.
